Shannon Hathaway grew up in rural Massachusetts with parents involved in Historic Home Restoration and Antiques. She worked on job sites with her father, tended the gardens with her mother and grandmother, and learned to love design, construction and horticulture. After several years teaching English and Art, raising two boys and battling kidney cancer, she turned her focus back to her roots and pursued her hobby as a career through NCSU's Continuing Education program.

Shannon has worked for Tony Avent at Plant Delights Nursery and at Garden Supply Company. In January of 2002 she started Green Heron Landscaping, Inc. with one truck and one employee, Foreman Jose Medina. The company has grown steadily while maintaining its small business focus on customer satisfaction and attention to detail. Green Heron has won First Place three times at the Southern Ideal Home Show, and has been featured on HGTV's Landscaper's Challenge. Shannon greatly appreciates the support of her husband, Gary, her parents, Mike and Peg Miller, and her sons, Tim and Jack. Tim is a Raleigh police officer and a graduate of Appalachian State University, and Jack is a student at High Point University. Shannon does her hobby for a living and loves every minute of it!
